What this does
Reads a business card photo and pulls out the name, company, phone, email, and website, so you can save the contact without typing it.
Made for the pile of cards in your bag after an event.
How to use it
- Photograph the card, or upload a picture of one.
- Wait for the details to be read.
- Check them, particularly the email address.
- Save the contact or export it.
Getting a good read
- Fill the frame with the card and keep it square on.
- Even light. Glossy cards throw glare, so tilt slightly to avoid the reflection.
- If the card has details on the back, photograph that separately.
- Very stylised fonts and low-contrast designs are the hardest cases.
Your privacy
Your photo is sent to be read and the details are returned to you. The image is not kept afterwards. The card holds someone else’s personal details, so handle them as you would expect yours to be handled.
Common questions
Does it get the email right?
Usually, but an email address is the one field where a single wrong character means silence. Check it before saving.
Can it read a card in another language?
It handles most Latin-alphabet languages. Other scripts are less reliable.
What about a QR code on the card?
Scan that with your normal camera app, which will usually have the contact details already in it.
